Since his birthday celebration on Wednesday, May 5, Captain Smart, the suspended host of Angel FM’s morning show, has been narrating what led to his one-month suspension from Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN).
According to Captain Smart, after his show on Wednesday, Samuel Kofi Acheampong a.k.a. Bronzy, the Chief Executive Officer of ABN, called him on the phone and said that “there is so much pressure coming from the left-right-center” on ABN’s founding President, Dr Kwaku Oteng, and that Captain Smart should contact the President of ABN.
On Thursday, May 6, Smart told the host of Good Evening Ghana that he had received details the night before yesterday [Wednesday] that certain people had met at the [Labone] Coffee Shop to plan what might happen.
Captain Smart replied that the meeting at the Coffee Shop was about “Captain Smart becoming too loud, he is making some people unpopular…” when asked what the meeting was about.
“So yesterday [Wednesday] on air, I said that look if today, Captain Kwaku Oteng says I can not work with you again, praise God,” he continued. I am going to quit. I would not go hungry because I am not a couch potato; my brain is active.
So I called Dr. Kwaku Oteng, who said that some people in President Akufo-administration Addo’s have been calling him and sending him letters from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) because they think I speak too much.
Smart claimed to have inquired as to why, and Oteng responded that he, Captain Smart, had reported on one of his morning shows that Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia, Alan Kyerematen, and the IGP are all fools.
“So, I inquired on the air? Smart recounted, “And he [Kwaku Oteng] responded that yes, you said it on air.”
“So, sir, I told him that I can say anything in this world, but to say that the President of the Land, the Vice President, the IGP, and Alan Kyerematen are fools, no!” I would apologize to the universe and withdraw from your business if you will supply me with the facts.
During the chat, he said that due to the strain, when I leave work today [Thursday, May 6], he would like me to go off air for a while and then return when the pressure from above subsides. So I said, [fine] if that was going to help you. Since I am just one person and you have so many businesses, if Captain Smart alone can pull your business down, why not let me do that for you?”
Captain Smart went on to say that after the regular introduction to his show on Thursday, May 6, Dr Kwaku Oteng told him that “there is still pressure on him,” so he [Captain Smart] told his boss, “Senior, let me drop it.”
He went on to say more The General Manager of Angel 102.9 FM, Kwadwo Dickson, was asked to give him his suspension message, but he refused because it was very late, so he took a picture of it and sent it to him through WhatsApp.
