After a failed attempt to kill his 13-year-old nephew for money rituals at Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality, police in Sunyani arrested Benjamin Adjei, a 23-year-old fashion designer.

While on his way to the shrine to conduct the rite, Benjamin Adjei, 23, was apprehended by police officers posted at the Abesim-Tano police barrier on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway.

According to Sergeant Benjamin Lartey, a police investigator, the perpetrator allegedly lured the victim Listowel Adjei, 13, into a taxi cab, but luck was not on his side when he was apprehended after a tip-off.

Sergeant Benjamin Lartey believes the defendant confessed to the crime during questioning and that he will be arraigned in court on Monday, May 17.

He clarified that an informant (name withheld) went to the Abesim police station and mentioned receiving a phone call from the suspect asking for his help in seeing a ritualist help him sacrifice his nephew for money rituals a few weeks ago.

“On Saturday, May 15, the informant informed the police the suspect had succeeded and lured his nephew into a taxi cab ready to convey him to the place for the rituals.”

“So the police laid ambush at Abesim-Tanoso barrier and arrested the suspect,” D/Sgt Lartey indicated to Ghana News Agency (GNA).

A handbag containing one large cutlass, a knife, red calico, a large pot, quantities of cola nuts, cowries, and an amount of GH300.00 was recovered from the suspect upon his arrest.
